Some summer favourites from the Garden Café at Doolin Cave.

Uncle Dave’s Brown Bread


2oz white flour                                                         .5 pint of buttermilk

1oz bran                                                                     1.5 oz butter

1 tbs wheatgerm                                                      .5 tsp salt

1 heaped tsp. breadsoda                                        1 tbs. brown sugar

1 egg (Beaten)

12 oz wheatmeal organic flour



Mix all the dry ingredients, rub in the butter. Stir in the beaten egg and buttermilk. Mix well together and place in a well-greased 2 pound tin. Bake for three quarters to one hour at 190f, 375c, gas mark 5.

Squeeze of Lemon

Black pepper

Pinch of sea salt
